A Superb Hamilton 6bb RAF Military Issued Watch in Fantastic Condition With Original Military Engravings, and Tritium Lumed Dial and Hands, Issued in 1974.
Hamilton produced for the RAF under the 6BB or 6bb mark between 1973 and 1976. The watch succeeded the earlier Smiths production piece and preceded the CWC production pieces. The ‘T’ marking on the dial stands for tritium, the original 1960s and 1970s material used to make dials luminescent, a mark that guarantees the originality of the dial. The fixed lug bars are typical of military pieces, notably, they are also present in the ‘Dirty Dozen' collection.
What's On Offer
This watch is in fantastic pre-owned condition and bears all the hallmarks one would expect to see on a military piece such as this including bold Arabic numerals, the military pheon ( an arrow used to denote the watch as property of the MoD) and luminous hour plots for times of low visibility - this is Tritium and is denoted by the circled T at 12 o'clock. The original tritium lume is still visible in the sword hands and has aged to a beautiful buttermilk colour. There is also a bold minute track to the outer edge of the dial. The rich black dial is encapsulated underneath shatterproof Plexiglas and encased in stainless steel. The 35mm brushed stainless steel tonneau-shaped case is in wonderful condition - especially given its age of going on 50 years! On the caseback you will note the original military engravings.
This watch is in superb condition and is running well and keeping good time. These pieces are becoming less visible on the market as numbers dwindle - especially in this condition, so it is a great time to buy! An asset to any collection.
