The history of Breitling is intimately linked to the history of aviation. In the 1930s, the brand's Huit Aviation department created accurate on-board chronometers. In the 1950s, Ref. 765 AVI was born, the first pilot's watch of its kind. Embracing the strength and sophistication of these iconic planes, the Classic AVI P-51 Mustang pays tribute to a powerful classic. Developed by North American Aviation in just 120 days in 1940, the single-seat fighter had advanced low-drag wings and cooling systems, all of which enabled its incredible speed and range. Even more remarkably, the inclusion of a Merlin engine extended this fighter's capabilities to high altitudes, solidifying its status as the premier all-purpose aircraft at the time.
Designed to withstand the challenges of vintage piloting, the Classic AVI P-51 Mustang comes with huge legible Arabic numerals on the dial and bezel, knurled bezel on the 42mm case for improved grip in gloved hands, calfskin straps and a stainless steel bracelet, and COSC-certified Breitling Calibre 23 movement that runs for 48-hours. Perfect for airborne adventurers, the watch provides great readability, comfort, and style.
